MedalIn Scotland, additional housing and accommodation for Veterans and their dependants is also provided by a number of independent charitable organisations. Some of these organisations are members of Veterans Scotland and they work to provide the best possible service to Veterans and their dependants. 

Properties range from hostel accommodation for single people to fully adapted houses for disabled Veterans' and their families.

Each of the participating charities qualifying criteria differ and these can range from being registered disabled at one end of the scale, to less stringent criteria at the other.

Deciding where to live is one of the most important choices you and your family will need to make on leaving the armed forces. It is never too early to think about where you will set up home. Whether you are due to leave in a year, a couple of months or have already left, there is support out there to help you. This leaflet sets out your housing options in Scotland and answers some of the questions you might have. It also gives you information about where you can go for further advice and support.

Erskine

Erskine have a range of accommodation options available to Veterans from five Assisted Living flats and 44 cottages to four care home facilities. New to the portfolio is the Erskine Transitional Supported Accommodation (David Boyle Court), which supports Service leavers and Veterans whose life or transition plans had been disrupted. 

We are offering accommodation in the David Boyle Court and wraparound support, so that Veterans have a mutual support base in which to reflect, reorientate and retrain before relocating to the region and employment of their choice – giving back to their community in the way we know they can. 

This supported accommodation aims to provide a transition into long term housing and employment for service-leavers transferring from the military to civvy street, Veterans who have encountered difficulties shortly after leaving the military and Veterans who may be going through another transitional period of their post service life.

For transitioning Veterans living in the David Boyle Court, who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, Erskine offers social, recreation and training facilities at the Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre (ERMAC).  They will also be offered a bespoke personal employability package tailored to suit their needs to help them move onto full-time employment and long-term suitable accommodation.

David Boyle Court is within a Veterans Village setting supporting Veterans of all ages.

Haig Housing Trust (Scotland) 

Haig Housing Trust has over 1,500 properties located on small, well-managed estates across the UK. They have a mix of family-sized and smaller houses, flats and maisonettes  and properties are rented to eligible Veterans who are in housing need. There are estates in Glasgow with 26 homes and in Edinburgh with 65 houses.

 

Royal Airforce Association

Dowding House is situated in the beautiful town of Moffat in Scotland. Dowding House boasts 26 flats in total with a great mixture of people living there. Any ex-RAF men or women, their widows and widowers who have reached normal retirement age may apply irrespective of whether they are Members of RAFA. Tenants must be able to live an independent life albeit within a secure environment.

 

 

Scottish Veterans Residences

SVR is Scotland’s oldest military charity, established in 1910, and provides accommodation and support to ex-servicemen and women of all ages, who are homeless, isolated or in need. We provide high quality accommodation and support to veterans at our residences in Edinburgh (Whitefoord House: 86 rooms), Dundee (Rosendael: 44 rooms) and Glasgow (Bellrock Close: 30 one-bedroom flats). Each residence is a Registered Housing Support Service regulated by the Care Inspectorate.
